The first thing that strikes you about the Park Hyatt Zurich is its location. Despite being in a small, quiet street, you are but a stone’s throw away from the shores of lake Zürich, and the heart of the city’s shopping and business area: the Bahnhofstrasse. Imagining a location better suited to travellers on business or vacation would be difficult.
The reasonably small size of the hotel only adds to its charm. Compared to other Park Hyatt hotels around the world, and to other good hotels in Zürich, the Park Hyatt is certainly among the smaller ones. This results in an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming. Not only does the staff address you by your name, and is more than efficient, but you also see familiar faces at breakfast and during other times of the day. Not many hotels offer a feeling of warmth and welcome as this.
That you are in a Park Hyatt is not only evidenced by the terrific service, but also by the design. Warm woods, and creamy colours dominate the slick, modern, and sober design of the rooms. Instead of impressing you with gold and marble, these are rooms that exert a feeling of comfort and relaxation.
Due to the hotel’s size, the spa is smaller than that of other Park Hyatt hotels. Rest assured, you still have a sauna, steam bath, and relaxation and treatment rooms. The service there is no worse than you would expect, the only thing that is missing is a swimming pool.
The restaurant here offers cosmopolitan mix of Zürich-fare, grilled meats and seafood, and more exotic or Italian dishes. In summer, you can also eat on the terrace, where more simple dishes are served. The cheeseburger here has the reputation of being one of Zürich’s best, and is certainly worth a try.
The great thing about staying in a hotel such as this is that they combine the positive aspects of a much larger, well-equipped hotel with the warmth and personal service of smaller boutique hotels. Combined with the location and room design, these points make for a compelling argument in favour of staying at the Park Hyatt when visiting Zurich.
